Golf De Wimereux is one of the few genuine links courses in France, and you can feel that seaside DNA from the first tee. This stretch of coast was a favourite with the British gentry over a century ago, so the brief was simple: build golf that could sit comfortably alongside the UK's classic links. The course has evolved over the years, but the end result is still a terrific, wind-in-the-face test.

Set between Calais to the north and Le Touquet to the south, it's a cracking option for UK golfers heading to Northern France. Plenty of groups add it in on the way to or from a Le Touquet weekend (and if that's your plan, this guide to the best golf courses in Le Touquet is worth a look).

Expect firm turf, plenty of run on the ball and the sort of breezy conditions that make club selection half the battle. The greens repel anything hit to the wrong side, and if you're loose off the tee you'll find yourself in deep pot bunkers or scrambling from tight run-offs. It's the kind of layout that rewards plotting your way around rather than trying to overpower it, and if you enjoy shaping shots and taking what the wind gives you, you'll have a lot of fun here.

Who is this for?
Anyone chasing a true links feel in France, especially golfers building a short-break itinerary around Calais and Le Touquet. It's ideal for mid-to-low handicappers who appreciate strategic, wind-affected golf and the history of classic seaside courses, and it works brilliantly as part of a Northern France long weekend for a bit of proper coastal variety.

Golf De Wimereux

Wimereux's classic seaside layout is truly spectacular, with views across the Channel to the white cliffs of Dover, and is a golf course of international repute. Many prestigious professional events have been staged at the 6,726 yard layout, which is punctuated by devilish pot bunkers, and is an exceptional golfing experience as part of an escape to France's nearest coast.

Remnants of World War II can be found in the course layout, former German concrete blockhouses have been used as elevated tees on holes 13 and 17. The fairways still bear the scars of the era, including genuine bomb craters and disused railway lines used by the German heavy artillery.

Golf de Wimereux is ranked as one of the best courses in Northern France

Pretty course with terrific views of the channel. Quite long walks from green to tee, some very interesting holes and well laid out but the fairways were in a very poor condition. We had a 5 hour round as we were stuck behind two fourballs of French ladies who were not in any rush. Is "etiquette" originally a French word? (I think not based on our experience!). Restaurant stops serving at 3pm. Wouldn't rush back.

Played on 21/10. Pretty much had the course to ourselves but that may have been due to the inclement weather forecast? The course is right on the coast so is a lynx course, so not as visually stunning as some of the courses in the region but the greens were excellent and didn’t show any signs of a long season. Would definitely play again. The clubhouse was a little disappointing. The only hot food we could get beforehand was an omelette - which was very nice - but no food available post round. Again, this may be due to the time of year?

Interesting front 9 - linksy and great underfoot despite the previous very rainy days.back 9 provides a great view of the coast and with the low sky it is reminiscent of Scotland. Enjoyed the golf and the club house has a a good feel about it and served decent food ( fish n chips) euro 16. At this time of the year a better option than St Omer

The course was quiet long but a fantastic links layout.a stiff breeze made it difficult but enjoyable. The greens were amazing,

Incredibly windy (which is fine as a links), however the fairways were not in a good condition rough was far too long. The greens, however, were in very good condition.

It was a good weather day so perfect. If very windy it would be difficult. Many people playing this day including a golf society of about 30. There was a little waiting but OK. Menu for lunch was a bit limited. Course was perfect and so easily accessible from Calais.
