Glen Golf Club sits on Scotland's East Coast, just outside North Berwick, and it has been serving up memorable seaside golf since 1906. When the club expanded from 9 holes to a full 18, Ben Sayers and James Braid were brought in, shaping the championship layout you play today.
This is East Lothian at its most scenic. You're up on the coastal edge with the Firth of Forth in view and Bass Rock out in the water, a brilliant white landmark that is home to one of the world's largest gannet colonies. On a clear day it's hard not to stop and stare, even if you are meant to be focusing on the next shot.
Golf-wise, The Glen is all about angles, firmness underfoot and a breeze that can turn a friendly hole into a stern examination. You will not get away with simply hitting it hard. Pick your line, use the ground and you will enjoy it far more.
North Berwick is rightly celebrated for the West Course but The Glen is not an afterthought. It is the ideal companion round if you are building an East Lothian trip and want variety without leaving the North Berwick area. Once you have played Gullane and you are heading through town, The Glen is right there on the eastern side, ready to test you with classic Braid-era strategy, wind and angles.

Though not greatly long at 6,300 yards, Glen is a tough test with a standard scratch of 70, and is incredibly picturesque as it winds its way along the rugged coastline above the Firth of Forth. When the wind blows off the coast, the yardage still makes for an enjoyable game of golf, but do you use the wind or fight it, your choice with the sea looking at you. The highlight is undoubtedly the little par-3 13th, where the challenge is to find the postage stamp green, perched just a hair's breadth from the sand and sea.
Often in the shadow of its neighbour, the West Links, Glen is certainly underrated, and its genuine charm make it an essential component of any golf break in East Lothian.

The course has some memorable holes on the back nine, but overall played more like a parkland than a links. By this I mean that the fairways were quite heavy and slow. Didn’t use the club house so can’t comment on the facilities.

Excellent value weather was good no rain which helps staff and local golfers made it very enjoyable
