Set on the Costa del Sol between Estepona and Marbella, El Paraiso Golf Club is an established Gary Player Design with La Concha mountain sitting proudly in the background. It's a mature, tree-lined layout with streams, lakes and natural movement in the land, so you're rarely just aiming at a flat target and swinging away.
This par-71 feels fair, but it does ask you to think. Water comes into play on several holes, the tighter tee shots reward accuracy and the undulations can leave you with the occasional hanging lie. Course management is the theme here. A well-placed iron often beats a wayward driver, and you'll get more out of the round if you're happy to plot your way around rather than overpower it. Pack a couple of extra clubs too, the lies can be a touch above or below your feet on those natural slopes.
With over 300 days of sunshine a year, El Paraiso is a reliable option for winter sun golf and shoulder-season breaks, especially if you'd rather avoid the hottest weeks. The course drains well, conditions stay consistent and the vibe is refreshingly un-stuffy, with rounds tending to move along well outside peak holiday tee times. Add in the easy access to Estepona's old town and Marbella's nightlife and it's a very sensible pick for a multi-course Costa del Sol itinerary.

El Paraiso Golf Club
Having originally been designed in 1973 by Gary Player, El Paraiso Golf Club has attracted golf holidaymakers in the Costa del Sol for decades. Located west of Marbella in Estepona, this par-71 18 hole golf course measures over 6,600 yards to create a superb test of golf for all handicaps. Meandering through palm trees and mature Andalucia countryside, El Paraiso utilises its natural terrain with mountain views to create a challenge that focuses on accuracy rather than length to stand a chance of playing to your handicap.
There are many great holes to enjoy at El Paraiso but the par-5 6th is considered to be its signature. Measuring just shy of 500 yards from the white tees, the hole dog legs from right to left with a bunker in play on the right for anyone bailing out off the tee. As you turn the corner, the hole's danger becomes apparent with numerous bunkers ready to catch your second shot if laying up and a large lake to the right for anyone attempting the green. The putting surface is guarded by a further two bunkers and a large slope ready to snare any mishit putt.
After your round, regardless of how you've played, a warm welcome awaits in the lovely clubhouse. As one of the few members clubs in the Costa del Sol, this is a great place to take in a bit of the history of the club as well as enjoy a cold drink while watching the golfers take on the course around you.

Will be most likely the last time we will play here --always an early start and some of our party were not keen to play again.
Seem to be alot of members playing here.

Out of the five courses we played this was certainly the best. I am glad it was the last one we played as we could then leave Spain with at least one happy golfine experience. I have been organising our golfing trips abroad for the past 25 years and I am afraid this one would be bottom of the heap.

A members club who held their club championship just ahead of us. A more open course, similar to many in southern England but more hilly. Good clubhouse facilities.

One hole was out of action, there was a short par three to replace it.The course gave the appearance of being overplayed vis the depth of grass on the fairways. The greens ,however, were ok -complex and quite difficult to read.Overall ok.
