Located in the heart of Criccieth, a handsome seaside town on the Llŷn Peninsula, The Lion Hotel is a smart base for a North Wales golf trip. Expect comfortable rooms, proper food, a lively bar that works as a genuine 19th hole and a warm Welsh welcome that suits societies as well as couples and small groups.

The Llŷn Peninsula rewards golfers willing to make the journey. Nefyn Golf Club sits an easy drive from the hotel and belongs on every peninsula itinerary, its clifftop fairways delivering views that make you forget what you scored. Royal St. David's at Harlech is also comfortably within reach and brings a very different championship links test, one that has hosted the Amateur Championship and demands serious respect. For a touring group with a few days and an appetite for proper golf, this corner of North Wales punches well above its weight.

The hotel sits on Y Maes, Criccieth's central square, so you can park up, check in and walk to pubs, restaurants and the seafront. Free on-site parking and EV charging help keep the logistics simple for groups driving over. From arrival through to a comfortable night's sleep, exceptional dining and the perfect post-round wind-down, The Lion Hotel Criccieth is where great golf days begin and end.

Who is this for?
Golf societies, touring groups, couples and individual golfers looking for a well-run, sociable base with genuine Welsh character and strong access to the courses of the Llŷn Peninsula and North Wales.

Who is it best for?
Groups who want variety on the course and comfort off it, particularly those building a multi-day itinerary across the peninsula's links and parkland layouts. If you want a proper 19th hole experience at the end of a long day rather than a soulless hotel bar, The Lion Hotel is your place.

Accommodation at The Lion Hotel - Criccieth

The Lion Hotel offers 34 en-suite bedrooms spread across the property, each one comfortable and well-appointed for the needs of a travelling golfer. The rooms are individually decorated, giving the hotel a character that larger chain properties rarely manage. The beds are the kind you actually look forward to after a long day on exposed links turf, and the en-suite bathrooms are well set up for a quick turnaround on an early tee time. There is nothing fussy about the décor, which suits the mood of a golf break well.

For groups, the mix of 34 en-suite rooms and six self-catering apartments is the big win. Rooms suit couples, twin shares and one or two-night stays. The apartments are ideal for longer tours, especially foursomes who want a bit of living space to sort tee times, dry kit and gather before dinner without feeling on top of each other. Each apartment comes with a modern living area and a fully equipped kitchen, giving organisers genuine flexibility when it comes to matching rooming plans to different budgets and group sizes.

The apartments are particularly well suited to groups of four travelling together, where the shared living space becomes part of the experience rather than an afterthought. If your group likes to gather before dinner or store kit without feeling cramped, the apartments make the whole trip run more smoothly.

For society organisers putting together a rooming list, the combination of 34 hotel rooms and six apartments gives enough flexibility to accommodate groups of varying sizes without having to split across multiple properties. That is a genuine advantage on a touring trip, where keeping the group together matters as much as the golf itself. The hotel team is experienced in hosting golf groups and understands what that means in practice, from early breakfasts before a morning tee time to a relaxed check-out when the final round runs long.

Key facilities:

  • 34 en-suite rooms (individually decorated)
  • 6 self-catering apartments with kitchen and living space
  • Free on-site parking plus EV charging
  • Central Criccieth location for walkable evenings

Three dining venues under one roof gives The Lion Hotel a genuine edge, and the hotel makes the most of it across breakfast, dinner and the post-round wind-down.

Llewelyn's Restaurant is the reliable start and finish line, with a hearty Welsh breakfast that sets you up for 18 holes on a breezy peninsula course without any danger of flagging on the back nine. In the evening the kitchen leans into locally sourced ingredients, and the menu reflects the quality of what this part of Wales produces. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is attentive without being overbearing, exactly the right register for a group of golfers who want to eat well and talk through the day's round.

The Ruby Room is your easy 'night two' answer when the group fancies a change, with well-executed Indian classics built around traditional recipes. Authentic Indian cuisine, prepared with care, makes it a firm favourite for returning guests. For a group celebrating a good round or simply wanting something different on the second evening, it does the job nicely.

The Mane Place Sports Bar is the 19th hole that every golf hotel should have but many do not. Sky Sports and TNT Sports cover the screens, which means major golf tournaments, Premier League football, rugby, Formula 1 and whatever else the sporting calendar throws at a given weekend are all accounted for. The beer selection is solid, the atmosphere is easy and sociable, and the casual dining menu means you can eat without having to move to a different room. When the weather is generous, the spacious beer garden extends the evening outdoors, with the kind of light that lingers on a Welsh summer evening in a way that makes you reluctant to call it a night. If you're the sort who likes to re-live every missed putt, this is where you'll do it.

Fantastic trip to North Wales. Played Royal St David’s, difficult course but stunning links golf, followed by Nefyn & District, the point was spectacular and Course was in great condition, an experience not to be missed. The final day was at Porthmadog and again the course was in good shape with the greens in excellent condition A contrast of heathland/Parkland on the front 9 followed by good links golf on the back 9. All the clubs were very welcoming from the pro shops to the clubhouse and the Lion Hotel in Cricceith was friendly, helpful and perfectly situated for the stay. The weather was perfect, sunshine ☀️ and gentle breeze throughout, this topped off a fantastic North Wales Golfing experience. Thank you Jack at your golf travel for organising and booking the great weather to go with the amazing golf.

A clean, tidy and friendly hotel a short walk from the town. Insufficient car parking for all guests so roadside parking was required.
