- 2 Rounds at Shaw Hill Golf & Country Club
1 Night, 2 Rounds
Shaw Hill sits in 115 acres of Lancashire woodland, a Georgian hotel and championship golf course wrapped in rolling countryside just outside Chorley. The resort has built its reputation on doing the fundamentals properly: a parkland test that asks questions without beating you up, a spa that non-golfers actually want to visit, and accommodation that feels more country retreat than golf hotel. You're close enough to the M6 to make it an easy drive from Manchester or Liverpool, yet far enough into the trees to feel properly away from it all. The setting is genuinely beautiful, the golf is challenging without being punishing, and the hotel strikes the right balance between comfort and character.
Off the course, the facilities step up considerably. There's a full spa and wellness centre, indoor pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi, all included with your stay. The restaurant is well regarded and a real step up from the usual post-round fare, there's a snooker room for those who fancy a few frames, and the Vice Presidents Bar does exactly what a golf club bar should: cold drinks, comfortable seating, and enough space to replay the round without disturbing anyone. I'll be honest, the best bit is you don't have to 'sell' the non-golfers on this place. The spa does that job for you.
Whether you're planning a long weekend with the society, a couples' break that mixes golf and spa, or a midweek escape to keep your game sharp, Shaw Hill delivers without fuss or fanfare.

Considered to be one of the finest parkland courses in the North of England, this fair but challenging Par 72 Championship course, gives reward to both the low and high handicapper. The long hitters among you will need to be straight to score well. For the higher handicapper, who hits a true but shorter drive, this is a course that pays dividends if your next shot is from the fairway.
Nick Dougherty, winner on the European Tour and consistently ranked in the top 50 is still affiliated to Shaw Hill. Nick’s various medal’s, trophies and memorabilia are on-display at the hotel for guests and visitors to view.

The Georgian hotel anchors the estate, a handsome building that sits above the fairways with views out over the course and surrounding woodland. Inside, the feel is traditional country-house comfort updated with modern conveniences: free Wi-Fi in public areas, well-appointed rooms across three accommodation grades, and a layout that makes it easy to move between golf, dining and leisure without feeling like you're navigating a conference centre.
Rooms are furnished to a high standard across all three levels, with the upper grades offering direct views over the golf course. Expect comfortable beds, decent space, and everything you need for a few nights away without unnecessary frills. The hotel's real strength is how it caters to different types of guest: golfers get quick access to the first tee and the pro shop, spa users have their own dedicated wellness centre, and everyone benefits from the same level of service and attention to detail.
The Country Club facilities are genuinely impressive and set Shaw Hill apart from many golf-focused venues. The spa and wellness centre is the sort of place non-golfers will happily spend an afternoon, with treatment rooms, a relaxation lounge, and all the usual thermal experiences done properly. The indoor pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi are complimentary for all guests, which means you can loosen up after 18 holes or simply unwind if you're not playing. It's a proper facility, not an afterthought, and that makes a real difference if you're travelling with partners or family who aren't as golf-obsessed as you are.
There's also a dedicated snooker and card room, a nice touch for groups who want a bit of variety in the evening. It's the sort of detail that shows Shaw Hill understands what makes a golf break work: quality golf is essential, but so is having something to do when you're not on the course. The balance here is spot on.
Dining is taken seriously. The restaurant serves modern British food with an emphasis on quality ingredients and proper technique, the kind of menu that works whether you're celebrating a tournament win or just want a good meal after a day on the course. The setting overlooks the grounds, which adds to the occasion, and service is attentive without being stuffy. For something more relaxed, the Vice Presidents Bar is exactly what you want after a round: a comfortable space to debrief with a pint in hand, swap stories, and settle any outstanding bets.
Shaw Hill's location makes it a smart base for exploring the north-west's golf. You're well placed for other quality courses in Lancashire and beyond, with plenty of options within easy reach if you want to build a multi-course trip. But the resort is self-contained enough that you don't need to leave: everything you want for a proper golf break is already here, and the woodland setting means you feel a long way from motorways and town centres even though you're not.
Fancy it? Include Shaw Hill near Chorley in your next UK golf break and we'll sort the tee times and the stay.

Beautiful hotel lovely spacious room spotlessly clean generous modern bathroom. First class service and great food. There is however a huge 'but' the beds were terrible, hard and I suspect cheap mattresses. Would love to go again but couldn't risk another sleepless night.

The room we had was superb with a view over the golf course. Shaw Hill is not a chain hotel and the rooms I would guess are very much individual. The staff could not have been more helpful. The restaurant was excellent and the service superb.

Course was in excellent condition both fairways and greens .The course was not crowded so we were not rushed on the second day we followed a group of local players who were playing at our pace and we had nobody behind So we had a lovely relaxed round We will certainly return. Excellent spa facilities we appreciated after the golf

A delightful course every hole different and interesting in it's own right, the course plays long and the water hazards need some forward planning. A very well maintained course but the greens were only average I would expect them to be a lot better later in the year. Friday afternoons round behind three social four balls was slow 5 hours plus. Saturdays round imeadeatly behind the members medal took less than 4 hours the average being more than eceptable.

The course was fine. It is undulating and as a senior citizen a buggy was a necessity. The greens were average, not very quick but generally ran true. The par 5's were demanding with water approx 150 yds.short of the green with a severe uphill finish on three of them.
