Sept Fontaines Golf Club

Château l'Hermite sits at the heart of a 100-acre estate in the French countryside, where forests roll into open valleys and the whole thing looks properly peaceful from the moment you arrive. The château itself is the visual centrepiece, with two full courses laid out around the estate's woodland and open ground. It's classic countryside France, and if you're after a golf break where the setting matters as much as the scorecard, this one ticks the box.

The big plus here is simple: two courses on site. That means you can play 36 holes across a weekend without packing clubs back into the car or bouncing between venues. The layouts make good use of the estate's shape, mixing more open, parkland-style stretches with tighter woodland corridors where position off the tee matters a bit more. Expect variety rather than two clones, and enough change in direction to keep things interesting if you're playing back-to-back days. You'll often spot wildlife around the edges of the fairways, especially in the quieter woodland stretches.

If you like golf in natural surroundings and you're after a quieter, slower-paced base between rounds, this one suits nicely. Include Château l'Hermite on your next French golf break if you want two courses, one location and a proper estate backdrop.

Who is this for?

Golfers seeking a countryside golf break in France where the setting matters as much as the golf itself. The estate suits groups and couples who want access to two contrasting courses without needing to travel between venues, plus anyone drawn to historic properties and mature parkland landscapes. The natural beauty makes it particularly appealing for those who value a slower pace and genuine tranquillity between rounds.

Who is it best for?

Mid-handicappers and societies looking for variety and value in a single location. The two-course setup means you can play different layouts across a weekend break without the logistics of multiple venues, while the estate's natural features provide enough challenge and interest to keep things engaging. Also ideal for mixed-ability groups who want quality golf in a relaxed, scenic environment where the off-course experience, including the château setting and surrounding countryside, adds genuine appeal to the trip.

Golf Courses at Sept Fontaines Golf Club

Chateau Course

The main event at Sept Fontaines is the Chateau Course. Fully stretched, the course measures 6,633 yards, and is a pretty stern test, but the good variety of tees makes it playable for everyone. Perfectly manicured greens and fairways are a feature of the Chateau, while the mature woodland that borders the holes gives superb definition. Designer J.M. Rossi has created a gem, which consistently delights golfing visitors in the Waterloo region.

La Fôret Course

La Fôret plays second fiddle to the more established Chateau course, mostly because it is considerably shorter, at 5,325 yards. It is however still worth playing, and is especially useful for the younger visitors, or those just looking for a relaxing round. The easy-walking layout is kept to the same standard as its neighbour, and adds a further string to the already impressive bow of the excellent Sept Fontaines venue.
