The Pinhal Course rolls across the gentle hills of Vilamoura and is the second-oldest layout in the resort. Like the Old Course Vilamoura, it was designed by Frank Pennink and opened in 1976, with Robert Trent Jones making notable refinements in 1985 that helped it hold its place as one of the Algarve's best-known rounds.
You'll find Pinhal close to the heart of Vilamoura, so it's a cracking option for groups who want a proper round without disappearing into the depths of the Algarve. The course winds through mature umbrella pines and brings gentle elevation changes into play, with water hazards appearing often enough to keep you thinking from the tee. In my opinion, it's at its best when you lean on accuracy and course management rather than trying to overpower it.
It's no surprise Pinhal has long been a favourite among returning golfers. Less exposed than some clifftop tracks further west, it can also be a smart shout when the breeze gets up, and the conditioning is typically strong throughout the year. If you're building a multi-round break in Portugal, Pinhal is an easy, high-quality add-on with minimal travel time from the marina and hotel strip.
Include Pinhal in your next Vilamoura golf holiday with Your Golf Travel.

Pinhal Course
The predominant character of the course comes as a result of the rolling landscape that is heavily populated by Umbrella and Atlantic Pines. These trees are frequently obstacles to the visiting golfer, while there are also streams and a lake that can be decidedly tricky.
To keep up with the advancements in golf technology, the Pinhal recently lengthened a number of holes, and the resultant 6,947 yards is a genuine pleasure to play during a golf escape in the popular resort town.

Long walk between holes and over roads so if not good at walking take a buggy. The course was in good condition and the greens a little slower than the other courses. Still a good course.

Course has clearly had too much traffic, and needs some TLC.
Greens and Fairways were not what we’d expect from such a well renowned course.
Pace of play was also far to slow.

One of my favourite courses in Vilamoura which I have played several times.
However this time it appeared in need of a bit of care and attention as quite a number of the holes had a number of divots.
Having said that I would certainly play it again as a good challenge for my handicap of 13

Having visited and played the course twice last year I would definitely rate it as our favourite course. The majority of the group scored favourably on the two occasions we played on it this year. Although heavily tree lined, I would say it offers a challenge to any golfer and is well worth a visit.
