Peebles Golf Club is a cracking Scottish Borders test, set in the hills south of Edinburgh with big views across the Tweed Valley. Established in 1892, this Harry Colt design makes you think your way round, especially when you start missing fairways.
Colt's routing makes the most of the hillside terrain, with elevation changes that add both drama and proper decision-making. It's the sort of course where the right side of the fairway really matters and the greens will keep you honest if you're coming in from the rough. There's a good mix of holes, with chances to be brave, but well-placed bunkers and testing green surrounds mean you'll score better by playing to the right spots rather than simply hitting it hard.
After your round, the modern clubhouse offers a comfortable spot to relax, with excellent catering and barista-quality hot drinks. The club also takes practice seriously, with a superb short-game area and a driving range that includes three indoor bays and a Swing Studio. Resident PGA professional Steve Johnston runs the well-stocked pro shop and provides expert tuition for golfers looking to sharpen their game.
If you're planning a Scottish Borders golf break, Peebles is an easy one to build into a trip around Edinburgh and the Tweed Valley.
