1 Night, 2 Rounds

    • 1 Night Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at Hunley Hotel & Golf
    • 2 Rounds at Hunley Hall

Hunley Golf Club sits on the North Yorkshire coast, right by Saltburn-by-the-Sea, and if you like your golf with a bit of fresh sea air and coastal views, you'll feel at home here. You've got 27 holes on site, views towards Boulby Cliffs and handy on-site accommodation, so it works brilliantly for a quick UK golf break without faffing about with taxis and check-in times.

The course has hosted the EuroPro Tour twice, in 2011 and 2012, which tells you it's more than just a pretty backdrop. The big win, though, is the three-nine set-up. Staying for a couple of nights? You can mix and match the nines and play a different 18-hole combination each day, which keeps things interesting for groups and societies who want variety without having to pack up and move hotels.

Off the course, there's a nine-bay driving range with Power Tee mats, so you can get plenty of reps in before your tee time, plus a clubhouse bar that shows live sport and serves food throughout the day. You're covered whether you're arriving early for a warm-up or settling in after your round. And with Saltburn a few minutes away and Whitby about half an hour by car, you've got proper seaside options for dinner, a post-golf pint or a wander along the front.

In short, Hunley is a solid all-in-one base for golfers who want variety on the course, easy logistics and a coastal setting that feels like a proper break.

Who is this for?
Golfers, couples and societies who want an on-site base with 27 holes, a driving range and a proper clubhouse, with Saltburn's pubs and seaside vibe close by.

Who is it best for?
Groups staying two or three nights who want variety across multiple rounds, plus anyone who enjoys coastal golf where conditions can change the feel of the course day to day.

Golf Courses at Hunley Golf Club

Morgan's Course

he Morgan's Course is named after its designer, John Morgan and is the longest and most challenging course on Hunley's rotation. Tricky doglegs, plateau greens and fearsome water hazards are characteristic of a Morgan's layout, while the signature hole 'Snaiths' offers fantastic views over the entire golf course, North Yorkshire Coastline and Boulby Cliffs.

Course Information
Par 72
Designed by John Morgan
Opened for play 1991
Tees
White 6,794 yards SSS 73.3
Yellow 6,378 yards SSS 71.1
Red 5,713 yards SSS 73.7

Imperial Course

The Imperial Course is widely regarded as Hunley's most exciting layout and utilises the most difficult and most scorable holes on the golf course. It may also be the most spectacular as it affords unrivalled views across the North Yorkshire Coastline and Boulby Cliffs.

One of the most exciting holes is surely the 8th, named ‘Dicken's Dilemma', which is a short par-3 over a threatening water hazard.

Tees
White 6,543 yards SSS 71.9
Yellow 6,232 yards SSS 69.9
Red 5,468 yards SSS 71.6

Jubilee Course

The Jubilee Course is the easiest of Hunley's three layouts to make a score on but don't get complacent as any wayward shots will still get punished. The course has five par 5 holes, four of which are reachable for the big hitters and six par 3 holes. This is an enjoyable course layout and offers plenty of chances to pick up a few shots to par.

White 6,211 yards SSS 70.3
Yellow 5,904 yards SSS 68.9
Red 5,139 yards SSS 70.0

Accommodation at Hunley Golf Club

Hunley's on-site accommodation makes life easy for a golf break. You've got six en-suite bedrooms plus a self-catering lodge that sleeps up to six, so it suits couples, small groups and societies who want to stay right by the first tee.

The bedrooms are modern, comfortable and set up for a simple, golf-first stay, with en-suite bathrooms and high-speed internet. Wake up, grab breakfast, then you're only minutes from the course and practice facilities. If you're lucky with the weather, the coastal views towards Boulby Cliffs are a cracking bonus when you're planning your day or winding down after your round.

For groups who prefer a bit more space, the self-catering lodge is the pick. With a full kitchen and living area, it's ideal if you want to keep costs sensible, sort your own meals or sit together after golf and plan the next day's 18. It's particularly popular with societies or groups of friends who want to stay together, share a few beers after golf and have the freedom to do things at their own pace.

Food and drink are covered on site too. The clubhouse serves meals and lighter options throughout the day, the bar shows live sport and there's a good spread of drinks. It's a relaxed spot for the post-round review, especially if you can grab a seat outside and take in the course and coastline. The menu covers everything from breakfast and light bites to post-round meals, so you're sorted whether you want a quick sandwich before heading out or something more substantial after 36 holes.

If you do fancy heading out, Saltburn-by-the-Sea is just down the road for pubs, restaurants and a classic seaside stroll, with Whitby also within easy reach for a longer outing. The venue's location is one of its strengths. You've got a proper seaside town on your doorstep and the North York Moors close by, so there's plenty to do if you want to explore the coast or simply enjoy the atmosphere between rounds.

For golfers who want to stay on-site, keep things simple and have everything, course, accommodation, food and coastal scenery, within easy reach, Hunley delivers a straightforward package that works for couples, groups and societies alike.

Rooms for 24 golfers to pull together could have been a nightmare, but it wasn't. Reception staff had all of our check in registrations printed off and together in a pack for everyone to complete. We did this over a coffee and also chose our evening meals there and then. Very efficient and the staff were fantastic throughout our stay. Rooms were clean and comfortable.

For the price the room was one of the largest I have ever had and we were fortunate enough to have a spectacular view of the course and the sea. The room was comfortable and well furnished, the coffee maker could have included the instructions for use! Both the evening meal and breakfast were most enjoyable and the choice was unrestricted and all included in the fabulous price we paid.

excellent courses, first round on jubilee was a bit slow but mainly due to wayward driving in strong winds and heavy rough

I rated hard because the wind was blowing. On a still day the amount of run on the ball (in June) would have made it averagely difficult. Greens were tricky (and therefore enjoyable) - avoid the rough - if you don't, particularly if it's wet, just take a wedge to get back to the fairway ;-)

A real hidden Gem. Played the Imperial layout and when the wind blows it's a great course. I recommend to play off the white tees as it is quite short, but this truly is a lovely course and the entire party was pleasantly surprised. Will be back.

We played the imperial course Saturday and the Morgan course on the Sunday. The course has something for everyone, well maintained and the greens were contoured to challenge everyone.

When the wind is present as it was on the first day the course is difficult and course management essential which is easier said than done for a middle handicap player. On the second day there was no wind at all and the high straight drives stayed that way. Greens were all good and not straight forward, well positioned bunkers and water hazards that really shouldn't have come into play!! We walked the first nine on day one but grabbed a buggy at the turn because it made sense. The buggies were not expensive and are highly recommended. All in all we played 27 different holes over the 2 courses and did not have to wait on any hole any longer than waiting for those in front to play their second shots. The golfing experience alone made the visit worthwhile, the whole package though made it an excellent break and a return visit is on the cards.
