Elea Golf Club near Paphos is one of Cyprus' standout modern courses and, alongside Aphrodite Hills, it's helped put the island on the radar for golfers chasing something different from the usual Spain and Portugal rotation. Designed by six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo, it's a proper thinking-player's layout that makes you earn your score.
The routing follows the natural contours of the site, so you get plenty of variety in elevation and angles into the greens. Off the tee, there's rarely a free swing. Strategic bunkers shape the better line and a handful of water hazards add a bit of spice when the wind gets up. The real defence, though, is on and around the greens, which are cleverly contoured and will quickly punish a lazy approach.
If you're playing in the afternoon, don't be surprised if it feels a club longer once the breeze arrives, especially on the par 3s where carries and deep greenside bunkers can turn a par chance into damage limitation. There are risk-reward moments too, but it's usually the sensible play that pays off here, not the heroic one.
Fancy a Cyprus break? Elea works brilliantly as part of a Paphos-based trip, particularly if you're pairing it with Aphrodite Hills for a strong two-course combo.
Who is this for? Golfers wanting a high-quality test in year-round sunshine, with great value and a calmer feel than the big-name resorts.
Who is it best for? Mid to low handicappers and groups who like plotting their way round, rather than simply hitting driver everywhere. Play Elea Golf Club on your next Golf Holiday.

The magnificent par-71 golf course at Elea Golf Club commands a striking location above the shimmering Mediterranean Sea and has been meticulously crafted through dramatic landscape, featuring imposing weathered outcrops of limestone that offer a unique character across the course. Commenting on his vision for Elea Golf Club, the designer, Sir Nick Faldo, said: "This golf course certainly has the potential to play a pivotal role in establishing this part of the world as a leading European golf destination.
"When we designed the golf course at Elea Golf Club we decided to put the emphasis on thoughtful, rather than big-hitting, golf and there are plenty of strategic riddles for the golfer to explore and unravel over all 18 holes."
The fascinating layout circulates through stands of mature carob and olive trees, while the dramatic outcrops of weathered limestone strike a contrast with the deep green of the seaside paspalum grass fairways and semi-roughs. In a carefully planned ecological design, individual holes are fringed by undisturbed and un-irrigated swathes of colourful native ‘garrigue' flora. This stunning visual effect invokes a truly Mediterranean feel, while retaining the ethos of a traditional and dramatic experience for the golfer. In addition, the wildlife of partridges, birds of prey, butterflies and lizards thrive on the benefits of this carefully protected environment.
One other significant feature of Elea Golf Club is the large and sumptuous clubhouse that also boasts underground parking facilities.

Wide open and fairly easy though greens are tricky. Way too many people playing the course and super slow - had to give up on 16th as got to 17th tee and there were 4 groups waiting including one group of members with 5 people playing (badly)

Lovely layout, it was our favourite course. The greens were like lightning and there were far too many bunkers, but overall it was excellent

A good holiday course with the exception of the 17th which wouldn't be suitable for a higher handicap golfer

Despite all of the Faldo bunkers, of which I only found one, (not the same for my wife.) the round was very enjoyable. Greens were true but a bit on the slow side. Club house and families were good.
We carried our bags and that was fine.

This is a course to play, greens are challenging and the clubhouse facilities very good. The overall outlook on certain holes is shocking ie electricity hub and warehouses but other views make up for it. It appeared quieter than Aphrodites .The 17/18th are severe tests and great closing holes. we played twice, in the afternoon its 45 E
