While Dunston Hall is long enough to make highly-skilled players take notice, it is also very playable for golfers of every standard, making it the ideal choice for groups and families looking for a beautiful spot for a golf and leisure break. The 22-bay driving range is the perfect place to warm up or work on a few swing changes.
Dunston Hall's best hole is the demanding par-4 16th, where your approach shot must be well struck to carry the lake that guards the front of the putting surface.

Dunston Hall's 166 rooms range from standard doubles and family rooms through to larger suites. The vibe is classic country-house hotel, but you still get the practical stuff you want on a golf break: Wi-Fi, en-suite bathrooms and flat-screen TVs.
If you're booking for the character, look at the four-poster rooms or the attic rooms, where the original oak beams and sloped ceilings lean into the building's Elizabethan roots. They're atmospheric and feel properly different from your usual chain hotel. If you're here primarily to play golf and want simple comfort, the standard rooms do the job nicely and keep everything easy for early tee times.
A big plus for golfers is how the resort is laid out. You're not trekking across the estate to get going. The clubhouse and first tee are close enough to feel genuinely convenient, especially if you're travelling with a group and everyone's running on slightly different schedules. Most rooms overlook either the manicured gardens or the golf course itself, which is a nice touch if you're the type who likes to watch the first few groups go out while you're having breakfast.
The rooms themselves are well-equipped for the 4-star standard. You get decent storage space for golf gear, good lighting and comfortable beds, which matters more than you'd think after 36 holes. The family rooms work well if you're bringing kids or splitting costs, and the suites are a solid option if you're celebrating something or just fancy a bit more space.
One thing worth noting is that the hotel keeps the balance between heritage and function pretty well. You get the period features and the sense of staying somewhere with a bit of history, but it's not stuffy or impractical. The heating works, the showers are hot and the Wi-Fi is reliable, which is what you actually need when you're planning the next day's golf or checking the weather.
The Brasserie restaurant handles breakfast and serves dinner from 6.30pm, with a menu that leans on local Norfolk produce. For something more casual, the Garden Terrace bar and Bunkers Bar offer light meals and drinks during the day, with views over the gardens and course. It's an easy setup for groups, you can go as formal or as relaxed as you like after the round.
Off the course, the health and beauty centre offers a good range of treatments if you're looking to unwind properly. There's also an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool spa and a well-equipped gym, plus an aerobics studio if that's your thing. The snooker room is a nice extra for a low-key evening, particularly if the weather's turned and you're not fancying the bar.
The Grade II listed building is one of the standout golf resorts in Norfolk, making it a strong option if you want golf plus facilities and a bit of old-fashioned class without having to travel too far.

Large comfortable room but difficult to keep cool. Must have even worse during the really hot spells earlier in the year. Bit of a problem with which menu we were on but sorted out amicably. Very rambling building with long walk to hotel bar and restaurant. We’re able to do check in paperwork on arrival then just pick up key when finished golf.

All of the Hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Accommodation was very good and considering that there was 18 people in the group the dining arrangements were handled very efficiently. Would highly recommend Dunston Hall ,and of course Your Golf Travel who make it all so easy for any person who is responsible for organising a golf trip.

Lovely Hotel ,rooms, facilities and staff very good. Only concern was that we were booked on B,B and evening meal. When we arrived we found that the evening meal was £28 towards Al a carte menu. Same menu each night and all rich food which seemed to focus more on display than balance of ingredients. There should be one plain dish each evening.

This was a return visit to Dunston and it lived up to last time. Love s the course ... room was very comfortable and immaculate. The food was excellent liked the new carvery arrangement where your meal is delivered to you from a wide choice. Can’t wait to go back !

Good food and service in well appointed rooms. Personally I do not like buffet carveries but there were alternatives on a la carte. The room we stayed in was large and little things like water in the room make it a lovely place to stay.

Unfortunately we paid for the really dry summer. Fairways were very sparse and hard. Our group agreed to play pick and place to find some grass especially on the front nine. Lots of water but due to the firmness of the course even our groups shorter hitters were reaching par 4s in regulation.

Everyone (low to high handicappers) felt this was the nicest course we have played - this was our 15th annual break at 15 different venues. Like the hotel the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming from the pro shop, Bunkers bar and the starter.

The course is a very nice mixture of holes that stretches around the grounds of Dunston Hall.Some water hazards which make for some interesting club selections. Fairways on the hard side but to be expected after recent dry weather. Staff in the Pro shop extremely helpful. Would highly recommend a golf break at Dunston Hall.

This was a demanding course which required careful tactical play. We are very average OAP players so all could play it with care. However we found it the most exciting course we have played at home or abroad. Staff were fantastic and very helpful. We would love to play it again once we have retrieved all our balls from the water features !!

I have labelled the course essy as it is quite short and wide off the fairways. There are some challenging holes though and the condition of the course was excellent. 5 minutes between tee times is not enough, especially when large societies are on the course, unmarshalled with not much idea bout how to play the game!
