Bawburgh Golf Club

Tucked into 120 acres of rolling Norfolk countryside, Bawburgh sits just outside Norwich but feels a world away once you're on the first tee. The course unfolds across a valley landscape that drops towards the River Yare, so expect plenty of uphill and downhill golf and a few tee shots where the view is doing its best to distract you.

Right, this is one of those courses where you really do need to trust the yardage, then add a bit of common sense for wind and slope. With tees playing uphill, downhill and across the valley, it's very easy to come up a club short. Several greens are set in raised or tucked positions, so approach play matters, especially if you miss on the wrong side and leave yourself a tricky recovery.

If you like shaping tee shots to find the best angle in, you'll enjoy this. Fairways tilt and turn with the natural contours, so "in play" is not always the same as "in position". Get it right and you'll have a much simpler look into the pins. Get it wrong and those slopes will happily feed the ball away from where you hoped it would finish. You'll spot a few better lines the second time you play it.
